The backward seat turned out to be ok. I should state that the whole backward thing was due to us getting upgraded to business class. I had what was probably a 17 inch tv at my seat. The downside of this is that a lot of people could see what movie selections I made. I reclined, pretended to sleep, and somehow, "Monte Carlo," started playing. Funny how that happened.
It was a tight connection in Zurich as we literally ran through the airport and became the last people to board our Swiss Air flight to Athens. It was a very neutral flight as one might expect. Considering how long we've been traveling, none of us had terribly high ambitions for the rest of the day. Luckily, I was hungry. Because I was hungry, we stopped to eat at a cafe near the acropolis. Because we ate close to the acropolis, we decided to walk a little around the area. That's when I saw not one, but two people dressed up in white track suits and holding gold torches. Now had I seen just one person dressed like this, it would have indicated a bad fashion choice, but two? No, this was something special. As it turns out, the Olympic torch was being sent on its way to London and we were able to see the exchange taking place right in front of us.
It was certainly something I was not expecting to see. After the exchange, we were able to keep up with the new runner to a new location. You will note that this was not difficult, as the runners shown here were not particularly spry. A more official ceremony took place nearby and played the Greek and British national anthems. Despite the rain, this was a pretty spectacular thing to see on day 1.
