I got up a little early this morning since the sun was poking through the window. I decided to go back into the town to see if I could snap anything good. The first thing I witnessed were two stray cats schtupping. I did not take their picture. Most of the buildings were still in the shadows, but sometimes this worked to my advantage. Better yet, the cruise ships vanished overnight, so I didn't see anyone other than a few of those 3 wheeled trucks driving produce around.
At 9 o'clock, we hopped on a small boat for a short 30 min trip to the island of Delos. It was an ancient religious site for the Greeks. Now it's mostly a collection of collapsed roofs, toppled columns, and other features associated with the ruins of old towns. The difference between Delos and something like Pompei, for example, was the emptiness of it all. Despite arriving with around 20 other people, we mostly just heard the buzzing of flies. We also found ourselves on various "trails," that forced us to brush up against all kinds of allergen-laden foliage and weeds. At one point, we had been traveling off the beaten path enough that I scared away a lamb.
I liked Delos, even though it felt like my throat was closing up and restricting my breathing. It was quiet and offered many opportunities to just walk around and explore without many "No entry" signs and things of that nature. The weather here continues to confuse me. I guess it's similar to Los Angeles. It was only in the 60s, but with the sun beating down, I felt like I was burning up.
We are back on Mykonos now, but I feel like I've gone down just about every possible alleyway there is. We leave tomorrow at some unknown time. Maybe noon? Not sure what the Internet situation is after that.
And just a side note, if you're on Mykonos and eating at Niko's Taverna, don't order the lamb souvlaki. It's like trying to down shoe leather. But if you're like me and don't know when your next meal will be, you take what you can get.
